The international ELLA–Inclusion Congress, organized by the IB-Behindertenhilfe, Germany and the Österreichische Jungarbeiterbewegung (ÖJAB), Austria, took place on 12th November 2015 in Vienna, Austria. The theme of the ELLA Inclusion Congress was „United for inclusive education: Moving beyond traditional learning”. The Inclusion Congress was under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Austria Dr. Heinz Fischer.
The congress has been held at the Europahaus Vienna, located just inside the western city limits and surrounded by a beautiful 6 hectare baroque park with a wonderfully preserved natural green environment.
The congress was organized in the context of the International Lifelong Learning Project ELLA (European Life Long Learning Academy) which is funded by the European Union. The ELLA project focuses on the inclusive adult education of people with disabilities and combines 19 partners from 12 countries, including the candidates to EU membership Serbia and Turkey as well as Israel as a third country.
The aim of the congress was to share and promote among participants the importance of the inclusive education and to highlight the areas that need particular attention to improve inclusive education and strengthen policy development. In addition, the congress also focused on inclusive work environment, vocational training and active labour market participation of disabled people. The congress brought together more than 150 project partners, people with disabilities, companies, politicans, representatives of companies, social organizations, adult education centres, universities and teachers, who are interested in improving the educational situation of people with disabilities.
The project partners are very much looking forward to presenting the outcomes of the ELLA Congress to external stakeholders and to decision makers.
The Congress featured an excellent programe including 2 high-profile keynote speakers, 26 educational workshops and special disabled presenters.
